What is Consciousness and where does it come from?


A question pondered by many since the beginning of time, we might be a few steps closer to having an answer as this week's podcast from NPR TED Radio Hour dives deeply into The Unknown Brain.

Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte-Taylor walks us through what it's like to survive a stroke, from a scientist's perspective, and how amazing the brain is at re-wiring again.

Ever wanted to make brain soup? Neither have I, but neuroscientist Suzana Herculano-Houzel is a pro at it! For Science!

Are there parts of the brain specifically for different functions? Seeing faces, picking out colors, hearing sounds? Nancy Kanwisher researched this topic by studying her own brain in an fMRI while she asks herself these same questions.

And finally, we get philosophical with David Chalmers and explore our sense of self and the nature of consciousness. Hear the full take below:
